2:11 “Wherefore remember that once you were the nations in the flesh, named “Uncircumcision” by the so-called “Circumcision” in flesh made by hand. [Read more…]
30. Cain and Abel
There is a lesson to be learned from the story of Cain and Abel that may have been missed by casual reading. In this edition, we should like to delve into the Hebrew words a little, and extract some important information. [Read more…]
31. Laying the Foundation of the Lord’s House
We have just reached the second month of the year, and it reminds us of two important events in Biblical history that took place in the Second Month. Perhaps we should have a look at these, to unveil their significance. [Read more…]
32. Tomorrow’s Bread
“Give us today our daily bread.”
These words fall off the tongue with such ease that the sense of them is often lost, because “the Lord’s Prayer” is perhaps the most frequently uttered prayer of Christendom, and indeed is much used by those who have never yet known Christ. [Read more…]
33. Grace Parables
Grace and Faith are subjects that our Lord has elevated above all other considerations in the New Testament writings. Notice, for example, that our Lord said about His mission that He was not sent but to the lost sheep of the House of Israel. That would seem to exclude the Gentiles. But lo and behold, a Centurion approaches from the Roman legions, and asks a favour, and he asks in such a manner that the Lord says, “I have not found such faith in all Israel.” [Read more…]
34. The Responsibility Factor
Hebrews 13:5 For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Most comforting words.
Paul was quoting from Deuteronomy 31:6-8, where Moses was commissioning Joshua in readiness to cross over into the Promised Land. He said, “Be strong and of a good courage . . . for it is the Lord who goes before you; He will be with you, He will not fail you nor forsake you. Fear not, neither be dismayed.” [Read more…]
35a. Our Wilderness Journey. Part 1
There is a section in Paul’s writing, (1 Cor.9:24 – 10:13) where he likens the life of a Christian to a wilderness journey, based on the example of the children of Israel in their travels from Egypt to the Promised Land. Twice in this passage he emphasises this, by saying, “These things were our examples,” and “These things were written for our admonition.” (10:6,11) [Read more…]

36. Genetic Modification in the Bible
One hears much these days about GM crops. Some say that it is a good invention because it saves the farmer from having to use poisonous sprays to deal with predatorial insects and diseases, but others say that it is a dangerous departure from that which is “normal,” and will eventually change the very metabolism of the human organism, as well as afflicting the environment in respect of various life-forms. [Read more…]
37. Arthur’s Testimony
Today is Sunday March 28th. It was 56 years ago today, on Sunday March 28th 1948 that I first came to know the Lord Jesus as my Saviour. Seldom do I mention myself in the articles I write, simply because my desire is to point my readers away from myself to the Lord, to His word, to His creation and purposes. So please forgive me if I depart from my usual practice today, because I feel so full of gratitude to my Lord for His wonderful sustaining power over these many years. I wondered whether perhaps a few words of reflection might touch the heartstrings of others as I speak about that day, over half a century ago. [Read more…]
