58. Free Will Versus God’s Sovereignty

28th August 2007 by Arthur Eedle

By Paul Fox

At the outset I would like to state that all the thoughts contained in this paper did not originate with me. I do not apologize for this however. I dare say that every person born, in essence, is a product of things he has read, seen, heard or come across in his daily life. As a result, we are a composite of many different influences, but ultimately they become our own and thusly we are responsible (ourselves) to God for the conclusions we have drawn from those influences. In that regard the thoughts expressed here are mine. With that said let us turn to the subject at hand. [Read more…]

52. Irreducible Complexity

2nd May 2006 by Arthur Eedle

Have you noticed in the last few years how militant certain groups are becoming? Take for example the so-called “gay lobby”. Ever since the law has allowed homosexual behaviour (just 50 years ago) there has been a growing pressure from activists, not only to try to make their position acceptable to the public, but more recently to bludgeon their way into life so forcibly that there is a danger of them becoming a dominant force in the world. Whereas they represent less than 1% of the public, they are forcing legislation through Parliament (in the U.K.) which, if ratified, would for example cause Christian Guest Houses to be shut down if they refused a double bed for the night to two practising homosexuals. This is just one of the danger areas which we have had to present to our M.P. prior to the reading of the Equality Act 2006, which contains “Sexual Orientations Regulations.” [Read more…]

45. EXPERIENCE versus KNOWLEDGE

6th September 2004 by Arthur Eedle

In the previous article, on “Cosmetic Christianity”, I suggested the idea of quitting church for a while to obtain a re-appraisal of true Christianity, through serious reading of the New Testament.  This may have caused offence to some, who might feel like quoting the Welsh poet, W.H.Davies, who wrote (in 1913) [Read more…]

43. The Gospel of Humanism

14th August 2004 by Arthur Eedle

An article by Andrew Strom.

What is Humanism?  It is all around us. It is the dominant spiritual creed of much of Western society today. It is rampant in the media, education, medicine – everywhere. And sadly it has infiltrated the church in a huge way in recent years. In Humanistic thinking, MAN is the center of all things rather than God. Everything revolves around making MAN happy. 23. What on earth is happening?

29th July 2003 by Arthur Eedle

One of the regular news bulletins we receive is that from Kathleen Keating. Although we all have our own ideas and interpretations of current events, based on Scripture, it is advisable to maintain a sufficiently open mind to contemplate new information as it arrives. Here is a portion of Kathleen’s latest bulletin. We would like to receive comments from our readers about the contents of this article, and its possible interpretation. [Read more…]

19. “The Intolerable Compliment”

12th January 2003 by Arthur Eedle

How good it is to learn from one another! How much we have profited over the years by the writings of others. Dorothy L. Sayers spent much time lecturing and writing on the subject of the Trinity, and in her expositions she emphasised that God had given to us a threefold ability in life, as a reflection of what He is Himself by nature. In this sense, she said that man was intended to create,  and that he would never be truly satisfied in life unless he could create something. [Read more…]

17. Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow

5th January 2003 by Arthur Eedle

An article by Bob Burdette

There are two golden days in the week, upon which, and about which, I never worry – two carefree days, kept sacredly free from fear and apprehension. One of these days is Yesterday; yesterday, with its cares and frets, all its pains and aches, all its faults, mistakes and blunders, have passed forever beyond my recall. I cannot undo an act that I wrought; nor unsay a word that I said. All that it holds of my life, of wrong, regret and sorrow, is in the hands of the Mighty Love that can bring honey out of the rock and sweetest waters out of the bitterest desert. Save for the beautiful memories – sweet and tender – that linger like the perfume of roses in the heart of the day that is gone, I have nothing to do with Yesterday. It was mine! It is God’s! 16. C.S.Lewis on the New Year

1st January 2003 by Arthur Eedle

I know all about the despair of overcoming chronic temptations. It is not serious, provided self-offended petulance, annoyance at breaking records, impatience etc. don’t get the upper hand. No amount of falls will really undo us if we keep on picking ourselves up each time. We shall of course be very muddy and tattered children by the time we reach home. But the bathrooms are all ready, the towels put out, and the clean clothes in the airing cupboard. The only fatal thing is to lose one’s temper and give it up. It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present in us: it is the very sign of His presence. [Read more…]

5. I AM

23rd October 2001 by Arthur Eedle

By Robert Beecham, October 2001

Introduction

The prophet Ezekiel and John in the book of Revelation both saw visions of four living beings. Each saw a lion, an ox, a man and a flying eagle. By the amazing supernatural design of God, these four beings corresponded in order to the four gospels of the New Testament. Matthew’s biography of Jesus views him as a king, which corresponds to the lion. Mark sees him as a servant, which is the nature of the ox. Luke views Jesus as a man. John sees him as God, represented by the eagle flying in the heavens. [Read more…]
