It is widely thought that the Church in England was founded by St Augustine, sent here in AD 597 on a mission by Pope Gregory. Nothing could be further from the truth! After being in this land for just under three years, he sent a letter back to Gregory, in which the following words appear: –“In the Western confines of Britain, there is a certain royal island of large extent, surrounded by water, abounding in all the beauties of nature and necessities of life. 75. Caterpillar Magic
I suppose the above title might lead the reader to think that I am about to expound the miracle of metamorphosis – how a caterpillar changes into a butterfly – and its spiritual significance to a believer. And I grant that it would be a goodly theme. But such is not the purpose of this paper. 74. The Secrets of the Lord
“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” . (Proverbs 25:2)
So reads the first of Solomon’s proverbs. And he goes on to say that “As the heaven is for height, and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable.” What do these words signify? Does it mean that ONLY kings have the ability to search out the “secrets of the Lord”? And why is the “heart of a king unsearchable”? [Read more…]
