46. “Just a wearyin’ for you”

13th September 2004 by Arthur Eedle

I knew her when I was still young in the faith, in the early 1950s, and she was then in the autumn of her life. She was quiet, relaxed, serene, of deep understanding, and rich wisdom. I felt drawn towards her as one who might impart something to me, I hardly knew what, but in my spirit I sensed I needed to dwell in her presence a while. Looking back now over the last 45 years, I have greater perspective clarity than I possessed in my “salad days”. My renewed spirit was yearning for the Person of the Lord Jesus, the One she had by her side, invisible but real, untouchable but bristling with adventure, romance and life. I know that now, and am glad to recall the memories of those summer days when I stayed in her Guest House in Southbourne, near Bournemouth. [Read more…]

37. Arthur’s Testimony

28th March 2004 by Arthur Eedle

Today is Sunday March 28th. It was 56 years ago today, on Sunday March 28th 1948 that I first came to know the Lord Jesus as my Saviour. Seldom do I mention myself in the articles I write, simply because my desire is to point my readers away from myself to the Lord, to His word, to His creation and purposes. So please forgive me if I depart from my usual practice today, because I feel so full of gratitude to my Lord for His wonderful sustaining power over these many years. I wondered whether perhaps a few words of reflection might touch the heartstrings of others as I speak about that day, over half a century ago. [Read more…]

18. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)

12th January 2003 by Arthur Eedle

A short while ago I wrote about Cancer being a “deficiency disease”. I would now like to take this a stage further and refer to another modern complaint, known as Repetitive Strain Injury, or RSI for short. It is a condition that afflicts a large number of people, rendering them unable to operate fully and effectively with their hands. Let me explain by referring to personal examples in our own family. 15. Cancer – A Personal Testimony

17th December 2002 by Arthur Eedle

Arthur writes – A few years ago I found a sore growing on my right ear that would not heal. No matter what I tried, nothing worked. Eventually I visited my local doctor, who arranged for an appointment at the Lincoln Hospital. In the out-patients’ department they took a biopsy, and when I next visited, they told me I had a squamous cell carcinoma, a form of cancer, and that it would have to be cut out. This meant slicing away a part of my ear , but as it was put to me, “you’ll still have enough ear to hang your glasses on!” [Read more…]

84. Our Stories

27th June 2000 by Arthur Eedle

The man who refuses to allow his wife any freedom of speech in the spiritual progress of their lives, throttles the voice of the Holy Spirit to himself. The woman who throttles that same Voice, allowing herself to be a ‘doormat’, prevents her husband from being moulded by His word through her. [Read more…]

83. My Help

22nd June 2000 by Arthur Eedle

It was not good for Adam to be alone. The Lord therefore created Eve to be his wife, as the AV puts it, “a help meet for him.”  A more comprehensive translation would be “a help, his real counterpart.” It was therefore God’s plan and design that a man’s wife should not just be his “real counterpart”, but also his “helper”.
