“The human spirit will not even begin to try to surrender self-will as long as all seems to be well with it. Now error and sin both have this property, that the deeper they are, the less their victim suspects their existence; they are masked evil. Pain is unmasked, unmistakable evil; every man knows that something is wrong when he is being hurt. . . . [Read more…]
2. Suicide
Not a very pleasant subject to consider, attack, ponder on, or write about, but we are hearing so much these days about “Kamikaze pilots” and “Suicide bombers” that we have felt the need to investigate the matter further, not so much from the viewpoint of the press and other media, but from a Christian base. 3. Petra
Petra is the name given to the (remains of) an ancient city of Edom. It was re-discovered in 1812 by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt after being lost for nearly six hundred years. On the pretext of making a sacrifice at the tomb of Aaron, (Jebel Haroun), Burckhardt persuaded a native guide to lead him through the Siq to Petra. The account of his journey, including reference to the hundreds of rock-cut tombs with ornate facades, published posthumously in 1822, encouraged other travellers to visit the city and write of their journeys. In 1929 systematic archaeological investigation was begun by George Horsfield under the Petra Exploration Fund Expedition. [Read more…]
4. Two different Gods?
Over many years we have read time and time again of the vengeful God of the Old Testament and the kindly God of the New Testament. From this we are led to believe that Jesus came to show that He and His Father were certainly not one, that He in fact came to declare that there was disunity in the Godhead and He would have to show the world by how He lived, show them that love was the answer, not the vindictive and tyrannical ways of His Father. 5. I AM
By Robert Beecham, October 2001
Introduction
The prophet Ezekiel and John in the book of Revelation both saw visions of four living beings. Each saw a lion, an ox, a man and a flying eagle. By the amazing supernatural design of God, these four beings corresponded in order to the four gospels of the New Testament. Matthew’s biography of Jesus views him as a king, which corresponds to the lion. Mark sees him as a servant, which is the nature of the ox. Luke views Jesus as a man. John sees him as God, represented by the eagle flying in the heavens. [Read more…]
6. “Not I but Christ”
After sending out Robert Beecham’s article entitled “I AM” I received correspondence asking for a clear statement of where I stood relating to the teaching contained in that article. The problem arose in the minds of some because of the supposed similarity with the teaching currently advertised through “Sonship” groups, and Gary Sigler in particular, whose writings I have mentioned in the past, and with whom I have serious problems. As a result, my wife and I would like to make a statement of belief in respect of this particular area of teaching. [Read more…]
7. How I Love Your Law!
(Psalm 119:97)
An article by Rosalind Eedle
Arthur has asked me to write something more on my studies of the Law. There have been a few responses to the first article and important points have been raised which we know need answering. First of all I would like to explain something of my own walk with the Lord. I was raised in the understanding that ‘the law was nailed to the cross’, that not only did the law of the OT not apply today but also many other things, e.g breaking of bread and baptism. I held to these teachings tenaciously until my early 20s. [Read more…]
8. The Jewish Problem
This article is likely to attract attention, and at the same time arouse a variety of strongly-held views and emotions. Whenever anyone speaks about the Jews it always has that effect. The Jews have been a “problem” to the world for the last 2000 years, and nations have dealt with that problem in a variety of ways. [Read more…]
9. The Evaluation of Coincidence
(The Arafat Factor)
Back in April this year I was first alerted to the existence of John McTernan’s book, “God’s Final Judgment on America.” The news came from one of Bill Koenig’s News Bulletins, and our fellowship took note of the contents, and discussed it this way and that. The book lists many “coincidences” that have occurred in recent American history, beginning in October 1991, coincidences between major disasters and political drives to oust Israel from the occupied territories. 10. Gracious Uncertainty
“. . . it has not yet been revealed what we shall be. . .” ( 1 John 3:2).
Our natural inclination is to be so precise; trying always to forecast accurately what will happen next that we look upon uncertainty as a bad thing. We think that we must reach some predetermined goal, but that is not the nature of the spiritual life. The nature of the spiritual life is that we are certain in our uncertainty. Consequently, we do not put down roots. [Read more…]
