1. Every man in his own order

1st May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“Every man in his own order.” (1 Cor.15:23)

“As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order; Christ the firstfruit, afterwards those of Christ at His coming, then the end, when He delivers up the Kingdom to God the Father.”

2. Firstfruit and Firstborn

7th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

Firstfruit and Firstborn

In part 1 we saw that the New Testament speaks of a threefold classification of those who attain to a celestial resurrection, and a fourfold classification of those who partake of a terrestrial resurrection.  Clearly there is more to be gleaned from this seven-fold grouping, but we shall have to leave it for the moment, to attend to another matter, as given in the heading of Part 2. 3. Putting on Immortality

10th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“Putting on Immortality” (1 Cor.15:54)

In this part of the series we shall get down to the nitty-gritty of what it means to receive our new resurrection bodies, and I think it may cause a few eye-brows to be raised, simply because some do not know how to handle, or unravel figurative language, of which the Bible is replete with examples. 4. The Trumpet shall sound!

12th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“The Trumpet shall sound!” (1 Cor.15:52)

In our last number we tried to address the “how” of resurrection. In this number we shall look at the “when.”  But before doing so, we must state categorically that we shall not be trying to set a date for the Lord’s return, but rather to tie it in with what is clearly revealed in the New Testament.Which brings us to the subject of Trumpets, and in particular the last trumpet. 5. Moshe’s Dream in Tel Aviv

13th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

The following story has been received from a number of sources, for example in Christine Darg’sbook, “The Jesus Visions”, chapter 4, and also from Jim Bramlett’s recent mailings. My purpose in producing it in this series will be seen as we proceed. [Read more…]

6. The Kingdom shall be given to the saints

14th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“The Kingdom shall be given to the saints” (Dan.7:27)

In rapid succession we have now covered the subjects of the “who”, “how” and “when” of resurrection. It remains in this number to attack the question of “where” and “why?”  It is a common belief amongst Christians that either at death, or certainly at resurrection, we shall be living “upstairs” with the Lord. As the old song put it, “If heaven’s not my home, Lord what shall I do?” Is there any substance in this belief? It is time to investigate the problem by looking at appropriate Scriptures, and once again, unwrapping any pictorial language we may find. [Read more…]

7. And we shall be changed

15th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“And we shall be changed.” (1 Cor.15:52)

The concept of “change” is very ancient. In fact it is found in the oldest of this world’s literature, the Book of Job.  Even though it is sometimes rather difficult to get an exact translation of parts of Job, due to its extreme age, and the manner in which people spoke in those days, there is clear evidence of resurrection. Job was certain about that, and were it not so, it is doubtful he could have endured his hardships so resolutely. [Read more…]

8. The Trumpet shall sound!

16th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“The Trumpet shall sound!” (1 Cor.15:52)

Forty years ago today, which on the Hebrew Calendar was Iyar 28th, 1967, the Israeli DefenceForces entered and captured the City of Jerusalem, and for the first time since AD 70, it became a Jewish City. On the Gentile Calendar it was June 7th 1967. My wife and I remember the day with its excitement and prophetic import. We listened to all the newscasts about the “Six Day War”, and rejoiced when the Jews regained much of their ancient inheritance. [Read more…]

9. Afterwards

17th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“Afterwards” (1 Thess.4:17)

The believers in Thessalonica were troubled about some of their number who had died. Paul wrote about them in his first letter, referring to the way in which they were grieved and sorrowing, and tried to cheer them up by saying that the world may very well sorrow for their dead, but not so those who had pinned their faith in the Lord Jesus, who have hope for the future. More than hope, a sure expectation. “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those who sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.” (1 Thess.4:14) [Read more…]

10. Meeting the Lord in the Air

18th May 2007 by Arthur Eedle

“Meeting the Lord in the Air”

“We who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.” (1 Thess.4:17)

There are three items in this verse which need some clarification. Let’s start with the last item first – the “Air.”  Are we really expecting to be hoisted aloft into the aerial regions?  I know that many take these words in a very literal way, saying, “Well, it happened like that when the Lord ascended, so why not us?”  This has led to the “Left Behind” series of 16 fictional books by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, which have become so popular that sales have topped the millions, making the authors extremely rich.
