It was the end of Michaelmas Term at Caxton College, and Staff and Students had just attended the Carol Service in the Chapel. The time was just after 8 p.m., and almost everyone in the College was at that moment in the Refectory, enjoying free mince pies and cocoa. The next morning would see the exodus of students for the Christmas vacation. It was almost impossible to be heard, due to the excitement generated in dining area, where students and staff jostled each other, shared jokes, and generally enjoyed an atmosphere of hilarity. Dr Quinton was seated in the Principal’s office. Professor Alan Dunstan had invited him so as to meet the newly appointed Head of Old Testament Studies at Caxton College. Dr Marcus West was a man of middle years, who had been Senior Lecturer in Divinity in a northern university, and so this was a ‘step up’ for him. “Doc, d’you remember me coming to see you a couple of weeks ago about ‘being caught up to be with the Lord’?” asked Jim Melrose of the second year.
“I do indeed. . . . So have you some further questions you want to ask me?”
