Returning to the subject of the Little Horn in Daniel, we read “He shall pay no attention to the gods of his fathers, or to the love of women. He shall pay no attention to any other god, for he shall magnify himself above all. He shall honour the god of forces instead of these. A god whom his forefathers knew not he shall honour with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts.” Daniel 11:37-38
These words indicate that the Antichrist will operate in a fashion never before known on earth, and so we have no parallel with Noah’s Day, but we examine it here because it follows on from Part 3, about the “love of women.”
Many modern versions prefer to translate it as “the god of fortresses”, but we prefer to keep to the A.V. and consider what might be meant by the “god of forces”. Now there are many different types of forces. Mechanical forces are abundant in all types of machinery. Then there is a magnetic force, so abundant these days with fridge magnets. This force is invisible, but readily observed and felt. But the last hundred years has known and applied a new force, one which was not known by our ancestors, namely the Electromagnetic Force. Where would we be without telephones, televisions, computers, cell phones, and many other gadgets, all of which make use of electromagnetic forces.
This ties in neatly with our quoted text, but Daniel could never have conceived of its meaning some 2,500 years in the future. But neither could humans 150 years ago. It is something quite new, and it is bringing certain individuals vast sums of money, “gold, silver, and precious stones” to those who live in Silicon Valley.
How many people do you observe in a crowded street NOT using a cell phone? In recent years the sale of hand-sets has grown exponentially. These statistics taken from the Internet, declare the total world-wide cell-phone subscriptions as follows – in 2,000, 0.72 billion; in 2007, 3.34 billion; and in 2014 7.20 billion.
Hasn’t this been a major victory for the Devil? He is now capturing people’s attention away from important things of life, and causing them to spend untold hours just talking to or texting others. This, together with TV, tablets, and computers is the modern god of the Little Horn, unknown by his forefathers, and “worshipped” (through their undivided attention) by billions.
