Things began to deteriorate rapidly after the days of Enoch due to the arrival of the fallen angels, so much so that men of faith began to cry out for deliverance. We read that “Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and had a son. And he called his name Noah, saying, ‘This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed.’” Genesis 5:28-29.
The name “Noah” means Rest, and Lamech received this prophetic word concerning Noah, who was born just 69 years after Enoch’s translation. Turning now to the Book of Jasher (5:6-13) we find the following record,
“And after the lapse of many years, in the four hundred and eightieth year of the life of Noah, when all those men, who followed the Lord had died away from amongst the sons of men, and only Methuselah was then left, God said unto Noah and Methuselah, saying, Speak, and proclaim to the sons of men, saying, Thus says the Lord, return from your evil ways and forsake your works, and the Lord will repent of the evil that He declared to do to you, so that it shall not come to pass. For thus says the Lord, Behold I give you a period of one hundred and twenty years; if you will turn to me and forsake your evil ways, then will I also turn away from the evil which I told you, and it shall not exist, says the Lord. And Noah and Methuselah spoke all the words of the Lord to the sons of men, day after day, constantly speaking to them. But the sons of men would not hearken to them, nor incline their ears to their words, and they were stiff-necked. And the Lord granted them a period of one hundred and twenty years, saying, If they will return, then will God repent of the evil, so as not to destroy the earth. Noah the son of Lamech refrained from taking a wife in those days, to beget children, for he said, Surely now God will destroy the earth, wherefore then shall I beget children? And Noah was a just man, he was perfect in his generation, and the Lord chose him to raise up seed from his seed upon the face of the earth.”
In Hebrews 11:7 we read, “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” The huge tree of humanity was about to be cut down, with but just one branch left, and this was because of Noah’s FAITH. Once again we read about faith, as with Enoch.
And after the Flood God meets with Noah and made a Covenant with him. “Then God said to Noah and to his sons, . . . ‘I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.’” (Genesis 9:8,11) And the sign of the Covenant was the Rainbow.
Were it not for the FAITH OF ONE MAN, Noah, the Promise given to Eve in the Garden would have failed.
