In the ancient stories of Atlantis there is mention that people performed experiments of cross-breeding between humans and animals, contrary to the Mosaic Law in Leviticus. Could this account for such creatures as Minotaurs, Centaurs, Pegasus horses, and Unicorns? Isaiah mentions the destruction of Babylon in chapter 13, and in verses 19-22, we find the following.
“And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendour and pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. It will never be inhabited or dwelt in for all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherds will make their flocks lie down there. But wild beasts will lie down there, and its houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches will dwell, and there satyrs will dance. Hyenas will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant palaces; its time is close at hand and its days will not be prolonged.”
The mention of satyrs is interesting. If the translation is correct, then it refers to being half goat and half human, as with Mr Tumnus in “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”.
Another ancient writing, known as “The Book of Jubilees” may be quoted with profit. Bearing in mind the text may have suffered in transmission, we have the following from Chapter 7:21-23.
“. . . . to guard from fornication and uncleanness and all iniquity. For owing to these three things came the flood upon the earth, namely, owing to the fornication wherein the Watchers against the law of their ordinances went a whoring after the daughters of men, and took themselves wives of all which they chose: and they made the beginning of uncleanness. And they begat sons the Naphidim, [Nephilim] and they were all unlike, and they devoured one another: and the Giants slew the Naphil, and the Naphil slew the Eljo, and the Eljo mankind, and one man another. And every one sold himself to work iniquity and to shed much blood, and the earth was filled with iniquity.”
“As in the days of Noah”, so it is in our day. Men have been “messing about” with animals, performing genetic engineering to produce hybrids, and cross-breeding, for example by crossing a lion with a tiger, making what is known as a “Liger”. Who knows what goes on in secret in the laboratories of the world.
Lions and tigers are both big cats, of the same genus, and therefore the Liger will resemble both, but what if creatures belonging to diverse species are crossed? And worst of all, what if human beings are crossed with animals? You might say, surely this doesn’t happen today? But are we sure? And why did the Lord forbid such practises in Leviticus, if such perversions were unknown? Many things are happening today which were also part of the antediluvial scene.
Perhaps many of the strange and terrifying creatures generally known as dinosaurs were in fact a product of the manipulative work of the fallen angels, who had deserted their proper place, and come to earth with considerable hidden, heavenly, knowledge, and were therefore able to perform experiments on animals and humans, which brought forth the Lord’s solemn words, “The earth is filled with violence through THEM, and I will destroy THEM with the earth.”
And so we close this series of studies. Our hope is that it will have opened the eyes to see from ancient writings things which explain matters passed over with tantalising brevity in the Scriptures, and therefore increase our knowledge of the past. But always with a view to preparing ourselves for the coming of the Lord, being aware of what He said about the days preceding His return.
