Trees that speak
“Let the floods clap their hands – -.” Psalm 98:8
“All the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12
Poetic language, no doubt, but to some who live in Nagaland, on the border of Burma and India, one might excuse their enthusiasm for taking things more literally! The following item appeared in Prophecy Today, Volume 1, No.4, 1985 as part of an interview with Dr Joy Seevaratnam, who said,
“A revival is taking place in Nagaland. Woodcutters going into the jungle claim to have heard the trees talking to them in Hindi, saying, ‘Jesus is coming soon.’ They were terrified, and came running out, wondering whether they were going insane. But we have heard this time after time from different people and they all say the same thing – the trees are declaring that Jesus is coming soon. – – 98% of the cannibals of this land have been born again.”
Another item he reported was as follows – “Last April about 500 students were baptised in the Holy Spirit at the river Perak [N.W. Peninsula Malaysia on the Strait of Malacca]. One group of girls couldn’t wait to take the Gospel to the next village, but it was so dark that it was impossible to tell the right from the left. As the girls prayed, a whole tree lit up with light, the leaves glistening like torches. This tree of light began to move and guided them step by step to the next village. When they arrived the head man couldn’t believe it – he called out all the people living there and asked them if they knew any of the girls. When they said they didn’t, the whole village turned to the Lord because they knew the only way anyone could have made such a journey was to do so supernaturally.”
“His touch has still its ancient power.”
