In reading an article sent in by a friend, we came across an item which helped us to understand the way in which the Old Covenant ended, and the New Covenant was set up. This will not be a “heavy” article, but just a little gentle theology. Perhaps it may help others as much as it helped us. And many thanks to our brother (J.R.J.) who kindly sent in his paper. We expand on the theme as follows. [Read more…]
63. St. Paul the Abortion
“As one born out of due time”. (1 Cor.15.8) Paul referred to himself in this manner, and the Greek word translated “born out of due time” is EKTROMA, meaning an abortion. We’ll give a little more thought to this shortly, but first of all, a brief biography of this ancient apostle would not be out of place. Saul was born in Tarsus, a distinguished city in Cilicia. (Acts 22:3, 21:39) He was a Hebrew of Hebrew parents, (an expression which savours of a little pride), of the stock of Israel and of the Tribe of Benjamin. (Phil.3:5) But he also came from a family that had acquired Roman citizenship, a much prized possession, especially in those days. Hence Saul was a Freeman of Rome by birth. (Acts 22:28) According to Jewish law, he was circumcised on the eighth day. (Phil.3:5) [Read more…]
64. The Moral Dilemma
The New Testament contains a number of apparently contradictory statements. Reason and logic demand that one cannot believe both to be true. Let me explain, giving examples of both sides. [Read more…]
65. The Moral Dilemma. A Personal Answer
I have received a sufficiently large number of requests to warrant putting my personal answer out as a following number of the Wayside Pulpit. I may do it in two parts. Certainly what I have to say in this article will not be along the expected lines. It is abundantly clear that my wife and I believe strongly in God’s Total Victory. We have advertised that fact on numerous occasions, together with many and varied reasons, stemming from a flash revelation back in April 1969, when the Lord showed me His plan for mankind in a most dramatic way, even though it was not on my mind at the time. 66. The Moral Dilemma. A Second Answer
Jonah 3:10 – 4:1 “And God saw the works (of Nineveh), that they turned from their evil way, and God changed His mind concerning the evil that He said He would do to them, and He did it not. But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.” [Read more…]
67. The Joy of our Salvation
Psalm 103:10-12 He has not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities, for as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. [N.B. The north pole is a measured distance from the south pole, but there is no way to measure the east from the west.] [Read more…]
68. The love of God
Such is the title of a hymn, written by F. M. Lehman in 1945, which I have in my “Old Fashioned Revival Hour Songs”, published in 1950. There’s a very good reason for printing the words of this song. Please read along with me – [Read more…]
69. The Windows of the Soul
From the Scientific viewpoint, the human eye is a spherical organ almost exactly one inch in diameter, whose outer coating (the sclerotic) is composed of a tough vitreous material ideally suited for its task of protecting the inner parts of the eye. The front part of the sclerotic (the cornea) is the only transparent part, the rest being opaque white. [Read more…]
70. Vision & Prophecy
The Outpouring on the Streets
(Hollie Moody writes, saying that she experienced the following Vision and Prophecy on Wednesday March 1st, 2000.)
In my mind, I was in what appeared to be a conference room. There was a large conference table in the middle of the room. It was so large, it filled almost the whole room. Seated around the table were what I perceived to be men of God. I saw priests, rabbis, etc. Each of them had stacks of paper and books in front of them. A large Bible was in the middle of the table. The men of God were discussing their interpretations of certain verses and passages of scripture in the Bible. I stood and observed the men of God for a while. [Read more…]
71. Confusion
Failure to Distinguish produces Confusion
The New Testament contains a great deal of information about TWO DISTINCT SUBJECTS, namely –
1. Salvation from Sin, 2. The Kingdom of God
When expositors fail to distinguish between these, confusion results. Let me explain. [Read more…]
