Nearly 400 years had gone by since Malachi spoke, and the Jews had formulated their “Tanakh“, which we now call the Old Testament. The Tanakh was sacrosanct. It was a complete book. Nothing could be added to it or taken from it. There were, of course, many other interesting writings, including such commentaries as the Mishnah and the Talmud, but the Tanakh was supreme above all, and must be preserved and copied with the greatest care. [And of course, we are very thankful to the Scribes, the Sopherim, who preserved their ancient records with such care.] [Read more…]
32. “In danger of hell fire”
Matthew 5:21-22 (A.V.) “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, ‘Thou shalt not kill, and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgement; but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgement; and whosoever shall say to his brother ‘Raca‘, shall be in danger of the council; but whosoever shall say ‘Thou fool’, shall be in danger of hell fire.” [Read more…]
33. The Silent Witness
Everyone has heard of the Turin Shroud. Throughout this century it has continually been the source of academic in-fighting, religious bigotry, and intensive research. Having read widely on this subject, I should like to make a statement of belief based on what I have learned. I am aware that Evangelicals look askance at the Shroud simply because it is “A Romish Relic”, as they would say, and they will have no truck with relics of any kind. I am also aware that the Roman Church looks upon its “relic” with strange duplicity, sometimes doubting its authenticity, sometimes accepting it, but always ready to “venerate” it regardless. But I wish to approach this subject ONLY from the viewpoint of scientific evidence found thus far, and not from any religious bias. Why should one have a bias anyway, unless it is towards establishing truth? [Read more…]
34. The Lesson of Amos
I have today received a communication of a most ominous nature, a prophetic message to the effect that the western coast of North America is WITHIN DAYS to receive an earthquake, the size of which will be sufficient to cause the whole coastal plain to slide into the ocean. [Read more…]
35. The Great Tribulation
The words “Great Tribulation” conjure up a deep-seated fear in the hearts of many of God’s people. The fear derives mainly from the way in which the subject is presented by Christian authors. Some believe they will be “whisked away” before “IT” happens, (called the “pre-trib. rapture”.) Others are of the firm belief that all Christians will have to go through “IT”, (called the “post-trib. rapture”.) [Read more…]
36. “Until”
Matthew 1:24-25. “Then Joseph, being roused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife, but knew her not UNTIL she had brought forth her firstborn Son, and he called His name Jesus.” [Read more…]
37. The Unnerving Power of Tradition
We like to honour Martin Luther, (1483 – 1546) who restored Justification by Faith to the world. But he was a fallen man like the rest of us, and some of his deeds and his words by no means did him credit. The following statement is reproduced verbatim from his writings. [Read more…]
